The name Punarnavan is derived from two words, Punar (once again /regaining/restoring) and Nava (new, renewed, or young), so the literal meaning of the name is, one which becomes new or young again. This name signifies the rejuvenating property of Punarnava. The theme "Punarnavan" in civil engineering is about a circular approach to infrastructure. It emphasizes the importance of recycling, rejuvenation, and re-construction of existing infrastructure creatively into modern needs. The theme is based on the idea of giving materials a new life or a fresh start through rejuvenation and upcycling in the construction context. The growing crisis of waste and resource depletion is one of the major concerns in the Civil Engineering community. Sustainability and resilience are two of the main aspects of engineering in modern-day infrastructure. The theme "Punarnavan" challenges the realistic applications and structural properties of recycled materials and through rigorous engineering, waste can be transformed into modern-day infrastructure.
